Cape Town began to protest against gender violence on September 4, 2019. Despite many arrests that happened, they will continue to protest. They gathered outside of the Cape Town International Convention Centre to protest.

After a day of protesting the police used stun grenades and a water cannon to scare protesters who were disrupting the World Economic Forum for Africa. The protesters even tried to block a major road, which made the police shower them in blue-dyed water. The reason for the protest was because demonstrators called on lawmakers to take more stringent action against offenders. One woman who they used for their protest as an example of the gender violence was, Uyinene Mrwetyana. She was a 19 year old college student who was sexually assaulted and murdered at Claremont post office, just last month. She is only one of the many females who have been killed recently.
